We’ve spent the last two and a half months working on 30K Thanks! As a tribute to the ongoing protests and to raise awareness around the world. Unfortunately, these past two months have brought about a lot of change resulting in our marketing campaign being canceled by two marketing firms and our list of Youtubers have dropped to none in fears of the most recent law to be forced upon Hong Kong citizens. 

On Tuesday (6/30/2020), China passed a contentious new law for Hong Kong that would empower the authorities to crack down on opposition to Beijing, risking deeper rifts with Western governments that have warned about the erosion of freedoms in the territory.

The security law was approved by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, an elite arm of China’s party-controlled legislature, in a process that drew criticism for its unusual secrecy.

Breaking from normal procedure, the committee did not release a draft of the law for public comment. Hong Kong’s activists, legal scholars and officials were left to debate or defend the bill based on details released by China’s state news media earlier this month.

The law calls for Hong Kong’s government to establish a new agency to oversee enforcement of the new rules. Beijing will create its own separate security arm in Hong Kong, empowered to investigate special cases and collect intelligence.

 Along with the civil unrest and censorship in the West, a big thanks to corporations bowing down to CCP money (*cough* Blizzard, Apple, Google, Reddit to name a few), 30K Thanks! release has found itself in a peculiar situation. We will still go ahead as planned with our releases on Itch and Steam, even if we are to be banned. It’s up to those who stand with Hong Kong to help us promote the game and fight back against the communist party of China destroying the world's security and freedoms.
